How will it be cooled? We have 3 ways to cool it. The better you cool, the more power you get per volume:
Passive cooling
The easiest way of cooling. But this won't allow you to have very small and powerful motors. We recommend using ventilation slots if you put it in a closed housing.

Fins and fan
Forced air is a good way to remove heat. So your motor can become smaller for the same power. It implies some fan noise, though.

Water cooling
The best way to cool a motor. This will make it very small and powerful, but you need a cooling water system. This is for experts only.

Can we use a gearbox?
Yes No
No gearbox means no backlash but makes the motor bigger for the same torque.
What kind of gearbox do you want?
Planetary Gearbox
Planetary gearboxes are small and have the output in line with the input. They have a great efficiency but are relatively expensive.
We can make you 1-3 stage gearboxes. The more stages you have the smaller the motor gets. But you get more noise and backlash.

Spur Gear
Spur gears are more cost effective than planetary ones. But they are larger and have the output sahft offset to the input.

Here we want to integrate a custom gearbox designer that allows you to set the optimum geometry for your application.
Worm Gear
Worm gears are compact and very silent. Their output is 90° rotated to the input. But they have a rather bad efficiency.

D-Cut
The classic one for lower torques. On the pulley side you have a screw pushing onto the flat surface.

Cross Hole
Simple and useful for plastic pulleys where you want to evently spread the load over the length of a transversal pin.

Key and Feather
Better for higher torques. Needs a notch in the pulley.

Cone and Thread
For high precision and concentricity. Useful for high RPM with low vibration.

Spline and Thread
Best to transmit high torque on relatively thin shaft because it weakens the shaft only a little bit.
